The Foot
The foot is a structure many do not even think about until it hurts, when in reality it’s an amazing piece of engineering: 26 bones, 33 joints and more than 100 tendons and ligaments. All of which work in unison to enable every step we take.
By the time most people reach 50 they will have walked, on average, 75,000 miles. The foot talks directly to the knee which in turn talks to the hip. So when you have a problem with the foot it’s not a local problem: it can affect the whole leg.
Whether it’s down to improper footwear, overuse, poor mechanics or simple neglect, the problem can then cause more damage.
Cartilage wears, arthritis follows. Hence the reason regular treatment by a professional podiatrist is always recommended.
